Occasionally I draw freely on whatever paper is nearest in an effort to work on some ideas or come up with something remotely new. Every now and then I'll go through those drawings and make a short list of things which I consider may have some merit and work on them a bit more.
This character was one such experiment as it stemmed from a drawing which I don't even think was meant to be a character. Furthermore, I've been meaning to start getting into animation so I finally decided to start working on that field. So I made automated low-poly proxies of the character that I was half-way finished with and rigged it up using Rigify in Blender. It went a lot smoother than I had expected so I keyframed a very simple animation.
This is probably the first rig I ever 'properly' put together - I think I had done something close to a decade and a bit ago in XSi and a really dodgy dinosaur thing I had made. Either way, the first step has been made so I will be trying out different stuff in the near future!
