This is a collection of tests I've carried out as I'm preparing our turntable based scanning pipeline for cultural heritage and historical artefacts. Primarily workflow tests and seeing where potential issues may be as I haven't worked much with turntable based workflows up until this point.
Camera used was a Sony A7 III 24mp with a Tamron 28-75 f,2,8. Two Aputure Led panels (mid sized) with built-in diffusers for the lighting.
Most assets were 4 rounds at different camera elevations with an average of around 150 images per model.
Reconstruction was carried out in Agisoft's Metashape Professional, though I tried Reality Capture as well with minimal success. Some scans were split into two captures which were chunk aligned, merged and cleaned up.
Post processing was generally minimal, some decimation, automated smoothing - occasional manual retopo in Blender for problematic parts or 'bubbly' meshes (primarily on semi-reflective surfaces).
This are primarily going to be used for archival purposes so an effort is undertaken to find a sweet spot between geometric complexity and performance - hence the typically higher poly counts.
